"Are you an Addams?"

While others celebrate the start of the fifth season on 11.11, join a St. Martin's procession or spend the evening relaxing on the coach, the students of GTA Theater (er)leben once again set off to experience local culture. The musical "The Addams Family" was on the program at the Gewandhaus Zwickau.

New York City. Somewhere in Central Park lives the Family Addams, a bizarre-looking family somewhere between dead and alive, celebrating their traditional festival in memory of their ancestors. They dance on the graves, resurrect the dead and revel in the darkness and mysticism of the place. None of this would be a problem if all the ancestors could return to their tombs after the festival and put an end to the haunting. But this year, Uncle Fester makes sure that the tomb remains locked and that all the ancestors can only return to their graves once love has triumphed. Daughter Wednesday is in love with a "normal mortal" called Lucas - and is already engaged. And the two of them want to tell their parents at a dinner together. When Wednesday's father Gomez learns this secret from his daughter, she urges him not to tell her mother Morticia Addams, even though Gomez promised her at the wedding not to keep any secrets. The bourgeois Benecke family and their son Lucas finally meet the Addams and a game of opposites begins. Whether the love between Wednesday and Lucas will really win out in the end or whether the families will come to blows so badly that even the Frankenstein-like butler Lurch will have to intervene remains to be seen at this point.

In any case, we had an extremely entertaining evening with breathtakingly great music, an incredibly fascinating stage set and an all-round successful production by the Plauen-Zwickau Theater. At the end of the event, which almost all of us attended in our bizarre Addams outfits, we can definitely say: we are Addams too!
