SIS is one of the pioneers of the secondary school project "Praxisberater". This cooperation project of the Saxon Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs with the Federal Employment Agency was launched in June 2013 as a support measure for individual promotion for career and study orientation. Each pupil receives a development plan from the practical advisor according to the results of an analysis of his or her potential, which is coordinated with the teacher, parents and, of course, the pupil himself or herself. In addition, the practical advisors establish and maintain contacts with companies and offer individual counselling for pupils and parents in Years 7 and 8.
The Subject Practice-Oriented Teaching (PU) is an additional offer at our schools and part of the compulsory timetable. Lessons take place in teaching cabinets, which have a pool of tools and machines, computer technology and high-quality working materials.
Each 5th and 6th grade student visits a company for a few hours over three days with a special research assignment provided by the school. The result is a presentation and a wall newspaper for the company. In addition, the pupils present their practical experiences in class and at the parents' evening.
The practice-oriented lessons in these classes provide the first basic insights into practical work procedures, development and production processes as well as economic contexts of various occupational groups.
In these grades, vocational orientation block weeks are combined in class at vocational schools and educational institutions that provide training in many occupational fields with activities in the companies. The results and experiences are evaluated and discussed in the class and school network. A potential analysis, counselling interviews, work with the career choice passport, excursions, visits to the BIZ and education fairs complete this spectrum.
The pupils are also encouraged to attend the "Week of Open Companies" and "Girls Day/Boys Day" events and to complete holiday internships. The idea behind this is that every opportunity to get to know professions and companies promotes the decision-making process on one's own career choice.
A special feature is the Company foundation projectThis is initiated in the 7th grade and then developed further. The pupils deal with the prospects of success of "their" company on the basis of a market analysis, personnel requirements or develop a business plan.
In the 9th to 12th grade, 14-day specialised internships geared to the students' inclinations and interests are on the programme. In the vocational grammar school, a three-week internship is also offered.
Job application training, assessment centres and company presentations as well as thematic parents' evenings and SIS education fairs complement the offers for career and study orientation. And of course, our pupils from the 9th grade onwards also visit various universities and colleges and the open days there.
The Oberschulen Reinsdorf and TRIAS Elsterberg have already been awarded the Saxon Seal of Quality for Vocational Orientation for the high quality of their vocational orientation. The other schools work according to the same concept, which means that a uniform quality can be expected.
In the practice-oriented lessons (PU) as well as in combination with TC/computer science/WTH, we teach the pupils versatile basic crafts skills and abilities, e.g.
In the subject Economy-Technology-Household (WTH), a so-called business start-up project is initiated from grade 7 onwards, which is further developed in the following grades. Through the practical/theoretical work on a concrete example, the pupils internalise both the connections between the individual subjects and the requirements and necessity of learning for their future lives to a special degree. In the interdisciplinary project, they deal with the following points, among others:
Each company receives a fictitious starting capital at the beginning of the project. Then it is a matter of dealing with business registration, tax office registration, bank, company premises, tools, necessary working materials, etc. Offers have to be written and loans taken out, processes calculated, employment contracts prepared and wages calculated. Offers have to be written, loans taken out and processes calculated, employment contracts prepared and wages calculated. Of course, creating a homepage (in computer science classes) is part of the tasks, and the possibility of insolvency is also discussed. For companies abroad, offers have to be written in English or Spanish, and the students also have to inform themselves about the customs there.
