A visit to Radio Zwickau

How is music chosen for a radio station? Who works in the background of a radio station? How much planning does an entire radio program require?

With these and other questions, we, class 8 IGR, went on an excursion to the city center of Zwickau on Tuesday, 13.09.2022, together with Mr. Seidel as part of our German lessons.

There we visited the central broadcasting station of Radio Zwickau, under the direction of Gunnar Tichy.

Most people imagine an office building to be a boring, monotonous and uninteresting structure, but this is not the case at Radio Zwickau. As soon as you entered, everything seemed very professional, modern and very accommodating.

After a very friendly welcome, we already got the first glimpses behind the scenes of the radio.

We learned a lot about the structure and process of planning for radio broadcasts and were also allowed to look over the expert's shoulder for a few things.

Among other things, we asked about the different jobs in radio and learned about Radio Zwickau's partner stations.

Afterwards, our class was escorted to a state-of-the-art recording room, where we were also given the opportunity to record something ourselves, giving us a real insight into the duties of a presenter and reporter.

Besides, our questions were answered in a very detailed and understandable way, so that we could say goodbye again at the end of the excursion with a lot of knowledge about the tasks of a radio.
