Digital textbooks in the classroom

Students at our International Schools are increasingly being introduced to digital media.

Atlas, wall maps, compass, rock samples - geography is one of the subjects that regularly uses a variety of materials - now also laptops or tablets. Since this school year, the 5th grade of the International Gymnasium and the 5th grade of the International Oberschule Reinsdorf have been our project classes in geography, which completely dispense with print textbooks.

This means that the students use their eBook to solve exercises and to learn about the textbook. The reading device is either the private laptop or a loaner device from the school. The great advantage of the eBooks is that the children can directly mark text passages in the eBook or also insert notes.

But also in other subjects, such as maths, eBooks and also learning software are used at regular intervals for practising and consolidating - and that in both German and English.

Despite the use of digital media, we aim to maintain a good balance between digital teaching and analogue working techniques such as handwritten notes and a neat and tidy binder system.
