Snow White and the new fifth grade classes

For some of our young people, it was the first time they had hiked through Reinsdorf and also the first time they had seen the small forest and the historic Röhrenstieg.

The weather was even more magical, however, because despite the date (August 8th), both the sun and the rain were kind to us all and the temperatures remained pleasant thanks to the thick cloud cover.

When we arrived in Zwickau, it was clear that we were not the only school that wanted to see the musical Snow White and Me and so our fifth graders made a particularly positive impression.

The auditorium of the open-air stage then filled up quite quickly and the spectacle could begin. To the surprise of some of our students, however, the English title "Snow White and Me" did not mean that we would be watching an English version of the fairy tale, but rather alluded to the fact that the fairy tale had also migrated and that we were now being treated to a musical that sometimes played with the audience's expectations in an almost audacious way. Instead of a new version of Snow White, the artists of the Zwickau/Plauen Theater had created a thoroughly postmodern potpourri of different fairy tales, in which the main focus was on going your own way, living your own story and not allowing yourself to be forced into a role by others.

So while the German teachers present were busy working out how they could incorporate the many suggestions and adaptations of well-known fairy tales into their lessons, the young people mainly enjoyed the extremely lively performance, the rousing music, the great costumes and probably also the secret heroes of the play: the not-so-evil wolf and the surprisingly child-friendly Rumpelstiltskin.

Other highlights were the actual hike through Reinsdorf, as well as its beautiful nature and Jacob Grimm as the Slenderman. On the way back, the number of pupils had decreased considerably, but of course this was less due to witches and wolves and more due to the fact that many of our children only come to Reinsdorf for school and so took the opportunity to be picked up by their parents in Zwickau to get home a little earlier.
